nervous! afraid of what will happen while I'm there. What if while talking about these things I start dissociating and can't come back? Penny (my current therapist) said he would know what to do. But he doesn't know me, he doesn't know what helps me. And what I know helps me he may not be willing to do (a hug). What if I can't talk? Just sit there, staring at the floor, trying to form words, but not being able to get them out my mouth. That happens during therapy sometimes - quite often actually. I know I don't need to be afraid. No matter what happens, it's okay. If I can talk,if I can't talk, if I dissociate, if I stay completely detached from my emotions and remain calmly on the intellectual level the whole time. Whatever happens is okay. I just wish I knew what would happen. I can't predict how I will be with someone I haven't met.
Sometimes in the past I have had an immediate feeling "This therapist is the right one." I didn't have that feeling today, but that doesn't mean he isn't the right one for right now. I will see him a few more times and then decide where to go from there. He is 1 1/2 hours from me and he knows that's one of my concerns, so he may be able to connect me with someone closer if that's what I decide to do.
