i feel like that!!! yeah in a way im pleased i told, but ive also upset my family, and left things akward for them. your not weird!

I feel like I lost my whole family because I spoke up about the abuse. If I had just kept my mouth shut I would still have a good relationship with my mother. I can understand how you feel completely.

it takes a strong person to tell about abuse theyve suffered. u should be proud of urselves, all of you should. dont let what other people think bother u, ya did the right thing. if ur family seem distant since u told them then maybe its cuz theyre trying to deal with it... knowing that they didnt protect u enough, maybe they feel bad cuz of that? just sit ur mum or dad down and ask them how they feel... maybe if u had a heart to heart with one of them things will get better? maybe they think u blame them for not being there to help u or somethin? just talk to them x

I can totally relate.My moms family was so close until I admitted to my mom that my cousin had been abusing me for 12 years.She comes from a big family and maybe 2 out of the other 8 not including my mom stopped talking to her. Then said I was lying he would never do such a thing.Even after he admitted to what he had done to me and then some.Even went to one of our uncles who was so angry at my mom and told him he had done it I wan't lying he still was in denial.Til this day I can not feel to sorry for any of my moms family that let her down in such a way when she was in need.To top things off when my uncle did start talking to my mom he acted like he had done nothing wrong.Today he relys on my mom and dad for just about everything.I have told my mom when he dies I can't go to his funeral for several reasons so when he does go just tell me and don't ask if I am going to his funeral.She understands me 100%.My dad on the other hand doesn't and he was angry at me.I believe it was becuase he went through a lot as a child and wanted to protect us kids and feels like he let me down.I was angry for a while but see him in a diffrent way knowing what he went through.But your not wierd and sorry that I have went on here but I had to let this out I haven't really been able to do this yet in my healing and I can totaly relate.If you want to talk just message me.I will understand and be here to help in any way.

I'm glad I told. I was in hell before I told, completely miserable and in horrible pain. ANd if I hadn't told, I would have been dead 4 and a half years ago.

I agree that it takes a lot of strength to talk about the abuse. You didn't ruin your family. If talking about the abuse caused them to pull away and apart, they weren't much of a family to begin with.

Abuse thrives in secret. Lots of people don't like it when we bring that darkness to light. But too bad.

I told my mom about the abuse a few months after I started in therapy. I was pretty young at the time and still had lots of hopes about my family being there for me. They weren't. In the subsequent years, I tried to kill myself several times and was hospitalized. No one from my family bothered to call or visit me.

I was scapegoated as the sick one. Made it convenient for everyone else -- that way they didn't have to look at how screwed up my family is. The people who have been the least supportive and compassionate of me through all this has been my family, and I use that term loosely.

I told one person, my mother. Granted, she was mentally ill beforehand, but still. She killed herself. I always wonder, what whould have happened if I just shut up about it. I am not saying be glad, just be careful who you tell, or even who you wished you told. "if wishes were horses, beggers would ride"

you shouldnt regret telling anyone. telling somwone was your way of seeking peace and help to cope with what happened to you. reaching out for help was a good thing. my friend told me, im the only 1 hes ever told, he doesnt regret it becuz now its something he can get help with, and he can tell me everything hes feeling, knowing its safe, and it helps him cope.

My abusers weren't family members, but I've still never told my mother (my father is deceased). I just don't see what good it would do at this point. She is the Queen of Denial, and I'm afraid all it would do is hurt me when she didn't respond as I wished she would.

I'm sorry that you feel like you ruined your family, but you didn't. The abuse ruined your family. As long as you were living a lie by keeping a secret, the closeness was false. And you are not weird!
