Hi all, so I posted some of this on my previous post, but I wanted / needed to tell it all. it is long, so i apologize right now. As I said in my other post, I was called the " Golden Child" growing up. As I said, I had a terminally I'll sister and when I was born Mom and Dad always said that " if I had not come along they would not have survived her illness". I know it doesn't sound that bad but it set me up thinking I had to take care of everyone and stuff my feelings. Mom drank, and quite often, especially holidays, Mom would get drunk, a fight would start, and I would be taking care of her, and trying to make everyone happy. That was my job after all. So fast forward to me getting married. He was17, iI was 19. Things were okOK for awhile until he started getting bored and would move back to Boston to be with his family, and then after 6 months move back to Seattle. Then he got bored with our sex and started getting rough. When I had our 1st daughterI was hemorreging. He ddidn't care, and raped me for the 1st time. I hemorrhaging even worse. But my job was to make him happy right......? The abuse continued for years and each time i I said it was my " duty" as his wife. I also suffered from endometriosis. 10 Various surgeries iI 7 years. Daughte. 2 Came along. I finally had a hysterectomy Afte 5. Days, rape again. What finally woke my up was one morning I woke up sore, wet, and bruised. I asked him if we had sex and I didn't remember. He admitted he slipped a sedative into my wine and then had sex. with me. I was shocked of course. I asked if I ever woke up and he said nope, just rolled you over. I asked if I was even wet. He said nope, but then you are tighter that way.I was stunned. Then we went out and had a lovely family day........later that evening I was talking to a friend and told him what happened. He was quiet then said, " Baby, don't you understand? He raped you last night" it all came crashing in on me. All the nights I lay there crying softly so iI would not wake the girls. I left. 1 Week later. To make it even worse I found out he had been molesting my daughter. Due to certain circumstances we could never prove it. And she blocked it out. My sister just told me that when they were tonnages my daughter told her what happened, but due to some things she said, my sister never told me about it. For one, she adored my ex, and thought I made my daughter say these things. so yet another betrayal after betrayal. So all these thing iI have come to light within the last week and along with my memories of my father. I have had some therapy and I plan to restart again. But again, this is the 1st timeI i have ever told my story. If you have made it this far, thank you for reading my story. Many tears asI i wrote this, but it feels like a weight lifted a little. Thank you all so much.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I know exactly how you feel when you say it was your job to take care of everyone else. I sat in therapy for a few years...yup I said years.... while my therapist tried to correct this thinking. I would say something and she would say "What about you?". At first my reply was "I don't matter. I need to be there for everyone else". I'm sure this statement floored her as it does to me now that I know different. Over time she would say "What about you?" and I would reply "Oh yeah. Me. I'm important too aren't I?" Then more time went by and I eventually understood that I am here to take care of me and protect me. It is not my job to make sure mom is not so upset by something that she can't handle; it's not my job to be my families doormat; it is not my job to be my families punching bag (physically and emotionally) and it is not my job to put THEM before ME. My goodness it took me a long time to change that thinking.
When I was 24 I was raped by my boyfriend. At this point I had forgotten about the abuse from 8-12 and all the rapes at 13 and 14 yet I still said to myself "This must just be the way it is" and actually convinced myself I wasn't raped. I just assumed, at this point, that sex was forced and violent. It was a few years before someone said to me what your friend said to you "you were raped". I am so glad that you had a friend you could talk to and who had the good sense to tell you this. And then it gave you the strength to leave. You are so brave. Brave for surviving it. Brave for getting out of it and brave for telling us your story. There is a strength in survival that can not be matched with any other strength on the planet... and you have that strength.
Take care
