This is hard for me to do since i have buried this so deep in myself that I havent even thought about dealing with it till recently. I was raped and molested from when i was 6 till i was 13 by my step dad and my mom knew it was happening and did nothing about it. I am at a point in my life that these memories are coming back and they are hindering a lot of my daily life. The hardest part for me to understand is at the age of 6 what did i do to make him do that. When you are 6 you believe in the world and how amazing it is, you see the light and goodness in others that people don't always see. You are innocent. How can someone look at that and do those horrible things to her???
It has been a few years since he was put in prison but like i said, it still affects my day to day life. I just what to know when will it go away??? I just want to get over it and make peace with it because it isnt hurting anybody but myself. He doesnt feel bad, the only thing he every said is that he was sorry for his family who had to find out......SERIOUSLY!! he didnt apologize to his kids that he left behind, to the step-daughter who just wanted a dad, to the step-son who looked up to him for being such a good man.
So any advice i can get at this point will be a great start. Thank you for reading this.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I have found that it is not possible to 'get over it' without working on it. That means working on your healing with a therapist. When we are abused we have many many feelings that go unexpressed. We keep them inside of us because it is not safe to express them. Now, as an adult, you still have all these unexpressed feelings inside of you that want to come out. In therapy you will learn how to express these feelings while in a safe place and while being validated for having them. Healing is in the feelings. Once you allow yourself to feel them you can heal. But please don't try to do this alone. Please find a therapist who specializes if sexual abuse if you can. You can heal and you deserve to heal. You deserve to have a full, happy, wonderful life.
I hope you will pursue healing with a qualified therapist. This is a good place to get support along the way. Another place you might want to explore is the website RAINN.org.

As others mentioned find someone specialized in sexual abuse to help you through the process. When you looking make sure to do research in the provider and how they classify them selves as a specialist. Just food for thought learned the hard way
