I will tell you that, for me, stuffing it, trying to ignore it, numbing myself with drugs/alcohol/men/sex.....never worked. It always kept working it's way back to the surface. I ran from it until I finally crashed into a brick wall of my own denial. From my experience...it doesn't go away on it's own. I had to face it and really dig down deep and deal with it and all the ways it had affected my life. I don't talk about it with my family...since they do not support me. But I have found a great group of women whom I meet with and share common feelings with on a weekly basis. Talking with other survivors and knowing I'm not alone has helped me more than any thing else I have ever tried.
The fact that you are here and talking about it suggests to me that you do want to talk about what happened to you so you can deal with it and move forward. You have found a great place to start. Keep talking about what happened to you. In my experience, it is the quickest way to relaese yourself from the shame, guilt, fear and pain of sexual abuse.
Peace and healing,
Pam
