Hello,
I am new to this process online. I have been in recovery and involved in support groups for 30 years now. As a child, I was sexually abused starting at the age of ten. One of those boys that grew up with a well-kept secret about having been molested and brutally raped many times during my childhood. No one to tell for fear of being blamed, that the perpetrator would follow through upon their threats, or of being treated differently. So much confusion growing up about who I was as a sexual being, what an appropriate relationship was, and how to cope with the pain within. I am presently attending college to get my degree in Social and Health Services in order to help others like myself. To help to educate other boys and men that you are not alone. And contrary to common belief, that big boys do cry, and it is ok to do so.
I am about 60 years old now, and just now getting to know my children. I just met my youngest son the 1st of May for the first time. An unbelievable experience in the best possible way. The thing now that arises is learning how to be a parent now when they are all grown up and leading their own lives. I love the challenge. With healing comes so many new experiences.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

Congratulations on meeting your son and getting to know your children. I am sure that is a profound experience with both pain and happiness combined.
