Hello all..
I was sexually assaulted as a young teen, which developed into an abusive sexual relationship... then I became hyper sexual all through highschool. There was not a lot of other social interactions.. no sports, after school activities or clubs... not in band... I was only interested in having sex.
When I was 18, I met my husband. I persuaded him to have sex with me the first night we met. I pursued him afterwards until we were dating... and now we've been married 7 years. Together for 10.
That is the longest time I've ever been monogamous.
A while ago... we met some people who were poly. It was like... this siren song to me.
We fell out of touch with them - they made my husband uncomfortable.
Then my abuser was suddenly back in my life.
I feel like I've been suddenly shoved back under all this trauma...
My husband and I were having a rough patch - we were disconnected. We started going to therapy together. But... even though he's trying so hard. Even though he's stepping up more than I've ever seen him step up.... I still feel this desire for sexual attention from other men.
In any capacity. My husband isn't.... he's monogamous. Through and through.
I'm just... I'm struggling with feeling like society and everyone around me is telling me not to be so sexual, or that my sexual desires will dissipate over time... or that with enough therapy, it'll go away.
I want to scream, "I don't WANT it to go away! It feels GOOD, it makes me feel so GOOD, why would you want to take that from me??"
I don't know... just looking to see if anyone else feels like sex is a problem, but isn't really the problem. If that makes any sense at all.

Upon his departure, he remarked, "I am in many people’s pockets; no one will believe you." Have you ever grappled with the silence that follows sexual assault, where the perceived impossibility of being believed necessitates self-censorship?

I do understand what you're saying because I've been through it too. I remember hearing a comedian say once that the difference between women's desire and men's desire is like the difference between throwing a bullet and shooting a bullet. Well I was definitely shooting bullets!! And it was fierce!! Thank God I never cheated on my husband but boy was I tempted.
I'm not saying you and your husband should stay together forever. You married very young and maybe you are and maybe you're not meant to be together. But this is something different. This is a compulsion driven by early trauma. And if you cheat on him driven by this compulsive need, that's called "acting out". It will be destructive to you and to him. It will undermine your own sense of integrity. I urge you to find a way to handle this that allows you to hold onto your sense of integrity. You have suffered enough because of the abuse ... try not to add to your suffering in this way.
I wish I knew the answer to make that strong drive go away. All I can say is, grit your teeth and try to get through it with fantasy and masturbation.
I still feel triggered by Young Girls, but now I realise it's not worth getting your throat slashed in Prison for.
In my mid twenties I got comfortable with my sexuality. I still had the occasional flashback, but I enjoyed sex and liked to experiment. I was much more picky about who I would have sex with and I felt in control.
That is gone now that I'm married. Before I got married I told my husband that I didn't want a monogamous relationship. I really didn't even want to get married, but we had a five year old son and my doctors said I needed someone to take care of me. My husband said he was fine with what I wanted,
For a while I was happy with just him. As I said I was picky about who I wanted to sleep with, but as soon as I found someone I did want to have sex with he freaked out and got emotionally abusive. He made me feel like a slut. I'm still trying to get past this.
Therapy doesn't help. All I hear is that monogamy is the only normal thing for a woman to want. That anything else is only caused by trauma and should be avoided. I think this is BS.
I think you really have to look at how you feel. Do you feel in control of your sexual impulses? Do you really want to have sex with other people or do you just like the idea of it? Maybe, you just need other physical outlets that aren't sex.
I've realized for myself that I really am not a monogamous person. It's driving me crazy that I'm in the relationship I'm in now.
You need to find out what is right for you and not rush to any decision.
