Yes it does, but until you get some professional help to work through it then you will continue to have issues with it. This is nothing you should work through alone, reaching out here is good, but some therapy would help you understand what you are going through and how to deal with it in your way as each of us have our own coping skills both healthy and unhealthy. Our minds are powerful things. They can confuse us...and yet, they can help us make some of the most meaningful choices in our lives.

But given all that...they can conceal things that have traumatized us. Only when something triggers it to make an appearance will we wonder where it came from. That's when we start thinking about it....that's where we get confused. I've been lucky...I've been able to sort through all my memories...because they are still fresh in my mind. They have never elluded me. So in a way, I'm also very unlucky...because I can never let go and move on.

I feel the same way...I'll remember something but then I'll question every detail of it to see if it's really true. I think a lot of it is not wanting to admit it happened, but I don't really know.

yes it dose but you need to get help with this...I am going through the same thing and I have asked for help...That is one of the hardest this to do...We are all here for you if you need it so don't be scared to ask for it ok...take care and get help ok...

Your head is out to get you. I sometimes think about my memories so much i begin to question whether they are real or not. Trust your mind - your memories might be hazy or mixed up but they are real.

Thank you all for replying and for the advice. I am currently in therapy now. It has been approximately six months since I started, but have still not been able to share details with my therapist. I guess I'm just not ready yet or something, I don't know. I just want to be okay, that's all.

I know. Check out today's journal. What's worse is when other people make you doubt yourself. I'm still wondering if it matters that I recall all the details. I would like to heal from this. Just not sure how.

I'm so confused about my memories. Because what I know has opened up to more detail than I used to know and its soo hard to tell. Especially when people tell me that some of it wasn't possible but I have witnesses to that.

yeah I'm so confused. for awhile I was resistant to believing my Grandpa did anything, especially since i don't have the clear "real" memories just a lot of signs and feelings. then I finnally had to admit it to myself in order to function. then the same thing happened with my mom. my therapist is always saying that we just don't know for sure that specific people did certain things cause there's not enough evidence. I sometimes wish she could just tell me that it happened. I wish someone could tell me the answer but it's all locked up in my body and I was so little I can't trust my own memories even if I do recover them. sometimes these pictures or sounds or things like that just come to me and especially when I see the scenes, it's me watching them and I don't know why I'm seeing them, but then I get realy tiny little bits of flashbacks, like feeling someone lay on top of me but it comes so rarely and goes away so quick I just think my head made it up and I got scared or something. I don't know, I just stay away from them and try to follow my meal plan.

I recently took got a diploma in Child Psychology and I learned that our brains automatically want to protect us from bad memories. And sometimes that's not always a good thing. While our mind is trying to protect us, it also jumbles things up and cause a LOT of confusion.
I've spent years trying to sort out all my memories and I often wonder which ones are really right or not.
I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was abused, and for now, that's enough for me.
If I remembered ever single time it happened, I probably wouldn't be here.
I don't know if there's anyone anywhere that completely understands all their memories of past abuse.
I know it's frustrating and I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this.
