I just joined another community on daily strength and then saw this one and thought maybe i would get something from it by hearing other peoples experiences.
Stuff happened to me a long time ago and I havent been able to talk about it. I am trying now in therapy but am very scared. It makes me feel very alone and because things were so long ago I wonder whether the pain of opening up will be worse than shutting things away because i am used to that now.
I am seeing more and more how this stuff has impacted my life and continues to do so but I am so frightened about talking about that and what it might lead to.
Did any one else feel like this?

i know how you feel its scarey to open up about all the abuse and feelins and sometimes it has to get worse before it gets better, but it will get better ....i think you are doing fine your talking with your therapist and you are seeing how the abuse has affected your life so hang in there your doing ok and there a lot good people here who are going through the very same thing as your wish the best

Thank you for replying to me. I wish no one had to cope with this but it is a comfort to know that there are other people out there who know how I feel and that things can get better. Thanks again.

i just joined ds specifically to be able to talk with others who have also experienced abuse. i have been talking with a therapist for a while but only recently was able to trust her enough to tell her about my abuse. it hurts alot to talk about it especially after keeping it inside for 32yrs. it was my secret and no one in my family knew. my therapist says that eventually it will all come out and it is better to talk now, where it is safe then for it to come out when your not prepared or not in a safe place. yes it will be hard but worth doing (i hope). i am slowly realizing that i deserve a happy life and so do you. so keep going and talking.

Hey i did the same; i joined other communities before deciding on joining this community. I can relate to the fear of not knowing whether bring up the past will help, or make it worse. I still not able to talk about it, but i think im nearly ready to, i just want to be able to live with it. When i told my family i cant remember them actually doing or saying anything, and i think that hurt more in a lot of ways. As jannis said your doing really well, hugs, stay strong x

All i can say is BE CARFUL what you say to a therapist because they have a thing called manditory reportin and if you say somthing they might report it. My friend whent to a theripist to talk about her boyfriend and i dont know the full story but cause of this reporting it has completley stuffed her life her kids are now with DOCs etc. i think the best way to talk bout stuff is probly here be you own shrink lol. Draw your own conclusions but take this into mind and see it from another angle. Have fun glossie

Yes. I got sick to my stomach a lot in therapy. I suggest taking it slowly, don't put too much pressure on yourself and it will come out when it's ready...

I was terrified to even admit anything to myself at first, the thought of telling anybody else was not even an option. It was more than worth it when I finally talked about it. Keep trying, and remember that you have a whole network of support right here in this community.
