Sexual Abuse Support Group
Sexual abuse is a relative cultural term used to describe sexual relations and behavior between two or more parties which are considered criminally and/or morally offensive. Different types of sexual abuse involve: Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape, incest or sexual assault, or psychological forms of abuse, such as verbal sexual behavior or...
Child sexual abuse causes more confusion and pain... and it rears it's ugly head years later at times.
Please talk, and please know you are NOT ALONE. It is hard for anyone that hasn't been through it to understand. Not to be sexist, but I think especially it can be hard for men to understand.
HUGS hon
Things DO get better but it takes time. Talking about is has unleashed a hurricane of emotions and memories and feelings. The goal would be to get to where it's not a hurricane but just an occasional thunderstorm. The best thing is to keep in mind that it DOES get better. But how does one get through it ? That's a highly individualized answer - For some, the right thing its to charge the monster all at once, for others it's better to attack it in small skirmishes. It really depends on your individual circumstance; there's no "one size fits all" solution.
Generally, it helps to have a "distraction", some goal or activity to keep your mind occupied, to give you time to "catch your breath" in tackling the issue. This doesn;t help much though, if the issue itself IS the distraction that's keeping you from doing useful activities.
I am also philosophically opposed to the the use of prescription meds as a long-term "solution". However, I am not at all opposed to such things to get through the occasional rough period and recharge the batteries, as it were. (It would be above my paygrade to discuss any specific meds. Suffice it to say, I'm not opposed to it in TEMPORARY situations). This might or might not be appropriate in your circumstance. Meds don't solve the problem, they only mask or delay it, but sometimes it's helpful to mask or delay it until you can tackle it with a fresh perspective.
I'm also a big fan of a change of scenery, at least temporarily. Vacations and "spring breaks" do wonders for revitalizing the spirit.
