As for the rest of the world, I never told anyone until I posted here, people in school knew what was happening to me and I was treated as if guilty of something but that was many years ago, I think it comes from fear and not understanding how something like this can affect you, unless it's happened to you it can be hard to appreciate the horror.
All any of us can do is get through the day and learn somehow to deal with the hurt and hope to make the world a better place,
I wish I had any answers for you and that I could make it better, all I can really do is listen and hope my reply doesn't upset you more.
I cant really offer any advice cos I am going through the same.....all i know it that it hurts so damn much but we have done thr right thing by telling, if only to raise awareness and make them look twice. I really believe they know we are telling the truth, they just choose to ignore it as it is easier for them that way.
well... in my opinion, people seem to try and ignore what is going on because they fear it. a lot of the time, mother's turn their head away because, lets face it, they love their husbands and dont want to think that they would ever do something as awful as that. also, when you dont understand why someone is doing something that awful, you dont really know how to react.
society is geared to live a certain way... so we all have certain habits, beliefs, and roles. so when someone goes against this, its basically culture shock. we're not raised to know how to react to this kind of thing, so for a large population, ignoring this is easier. not that im saying its 'right' cause its definately not! you are soooo right when you say that society needs to be educated about sexual violence! unfortuntely, its been taboo for too long, and changing this will be hard.. but i believe it can be done!
as for your sister... she should be worried. not only that, if there is a child in danger, anyone who knows is legally obligated to report this... im not saying this as a threat, but it is very important to know.
anyway, i really hope that you can get through to your sister, family, and other people in your life. i just want you to also know that i think you're soooo brave/strong to talk about it at all. i didnt for about 13 years...
take care, and if you ever need to chat, just send me a message :)
