Sexual Abuse Support Group
Sexual abuse is a relative cultural term used to describe sexual relations and behavior between two or more parties which are considered criminally and/or morally offensive. Different types of sexual abuse involve: Non-consensual, forced physical sexual behavior such as rape, incest or sexual assault, or psychological forms of abuse, such as verbal sexual behavior or...
I am so sorry this had to happen to you. They make is sound like our fault.
I hope you are in counseling. Hugs Pepper!
You did nothing wrong. Someone must be wrong here---it is them.I would think----but...but if you really knew the WHOLE story you would think differently about it. At age 6 there is no buts or clauses to make it a childs fault.
The child is NEVER at fault regardless of what they do or don't do...there are no exceptions. It;s so important you understand this. It doesn't matter what your mother says or thinks, whether she believes you or not does not matter. If you are a child and anyone bigger, older, stronger or has power over you rapes you, it is a tragedy but in terms of blame ...the blame always falls 100% on the abuser, again, no exceptions. Any blaming of the child by anyone is dead wrong and a form of abuse itself. Survivors who blame the child they were are mistaken and sadly engaging in self abuse. It's never the child's fault ...not in your case or any other. I can't state it any clearer. It's just a fact.
This was not your fault, it does not matter if you were 6 or 16, abuse is abuse and not brought on or asked for by the victim. NEVER
I was asked by my mom why I didn't tell. I was raised in a home where these things were never discussed. If we had the Sears Roebuck's catalog out picking out underwear or bras and my mom heard my dad coming in from outside, she slammed the catalog shut and hid it before he got through the door. We knew these things were not to be talked about period. Also we were taught that our parents were supreme athority. Who is there to tell, there was no one higher in athority than my parents, that is what they taught.
I am glad to see times are changing and kids are told to tell and who to tell these days. Still it is something that harms you right down to the core of your being. Something like that is hard to talk about at any age, but more so as a small child.
Just know we are here for you and we KNOW what you are dealing with because we have been there too. We believe you. We feel your pain. We know the flashbacks. The flashbacks IMHO are much worse than when it actually happened. When it happened we go numb to survive. Years later when we no longer need to survive and are no longer numb, we can really feel fully the effects and the flashbacks are vividly real.
I wrote a little about this in my journal. I really want to write a book but to write it would mean I would have to relive it in my mind and I am not sure I am willing to go there.
I am praying for you.
He put you, six-year-old you, in fear for your life!
He used force and terror to subdue you...you were an incredibly brave little girl for having struggled as much as you did!
Look, if someone with a knife tried to rape me today, I'd be hard-put to fend them off without getting killed.
I'm a big, strong female who lifts weights and practices kickboxing drills at home, and I STILL might get raped.
He...I assume to be a dad, stepdad, uncle...someone who was in and out of the house all the time...
He was waiting on an opportunity. He would have assaulted you sooner or later. He was going to do it no matter what.
You did something innocent-walking into your own bedroom. You had NO IDEA this disgusting bastard was a threat. And even if you had known, it's his fault!
Adults have a duty of care to kids-ALL kids.
Don't make excuses for him, it was entirely his choice, his fault, and he knew it was wrong!
(TRIGGER WARNING)
Look...I was raped at six. The first time I was vaginally raped. I went to the bathroom. My grandma was downstairs with the TV up loud. My uncle who was 17 had driven her over, my parents were out for dinner. He ran up the stairs, shoved me down in the bathroom and choked me semiconscious so that I couldn't scream or fight.
...I came up to the guy's stomach! That's how big I was! There was no way I was gonna physically stop him. All he had were his hands, and that's all he needed. He just shoved me down and choked me.
It was not my fault.
What happened to you, it was not your fault, sweetheart.
I know it wasn't.
