Flashbacks

I have been having alot of flashbacks and nightmares. I have been abused from age 4 to 18. I am 19 now and was emotionally abused by someone. I was raped at college but haven't told anyone. 


I feel like i keep getting re victimized and i want to learn how to become a survivor instead of a victim. How do you do it? How do you talk about the abuse?

Hello beautifultrauma and welcome here. I'm so sorry for everything you've been through.
I strongly recommend you to find a therapist/counselor. Reach out to victims assistance if you can, they can offer you help in many ways. People here at dailystrength are great but there's only so much we can do and since you have flashbacks and nightmares I believe you need professional help.

Hello! I agree with Beatha - in my opinion if your past trauma interferes with your daily life you should seek help of a professional councellor. Talking about your issues could benefit greatly in itself and having side perspective can be crutial for you to come to terms with your situation. I wish you all the best!

I know all too well what that feels like. I'm 13 and I was sexually abused from when I was 5 to 10. I wish I could tell you that talking about it was easy, but it will probably be the hardest thing in your life. But once you do, you'll feel so much better. You are a survivor. You survived it. It may not feel like it, but you did. It takes time before you can talk about it. A lot of it, but eventually, you'll get there. The fact that you came here, shows that you are a survivor, and you're making progress. Stay strong.

There's a website with a book and workbook along with a lot of information about reclaiming hope. They talk about the effects of trauma and how to reclaim your life.
There's even a retreat that you can sign up for if you are at least 18 years old. . It anonymous and free. I went to the retreat. It's 4 days in the mountains of Utah with professional therapists. It was life changing. I use the techniques I learned there every day. They provide everything, You just have to get to Utah. They only have the retreat for women, but they are working on opening a retreat for men. There's a waiting list.
