My Story
I dont really know how this group works but i think i'll make my first post about sharing my story.
I was on a school trip ( june 29th 2015) with 2 teachers and to fellow students to display our project work we did with a school in africa and there was another school in the same tent as us . One of the boys from the other school started talking to me , i have to admitt i did flirt a little. He asked for my number so i gave it to him. We went out on a date 2 days later, that went great. on july 1st he helped me and my school project team work on our project, so that was sort of our second date. Have you ever heard the saying " 3rd time lucky" well for me it wa s3rd time unlucky. We went to our local arcade to play snooker , i had won all the games and that seemed to annoy him but i ignored it. When we got outside he lead me down to the back of the building where we couldnt be seen. Next thing i knew he threw me against the wall and slapped me. i said what the fuck but he just said relax. he then started but his face in my chest and he put his hand down my knickers i touched me in my private place. i begged him to stop but he just said relax enjoy it. i just froze i didnt scream or try to fight him off i just froze. the worst is yet to come. he took his penis out and said are you ready, he pulled my up and was about to rape me when his phone started to ring, he answered and it was his mum so he put himself away. i ran home as fast as i could. the next day i was home alone and i grabbed a bottle of vodka and a box of pills and thought about taking my own life.
anyway when school came around again in september teachers noticed my attitude had changed, i wasnt doing my homework and i was day dreaming a lot in class. i was normally a well behaved student. On May 12th a teacher was annoying me so much i told him to fuck off. i wasnt sent to the principal but to the guidence councellor. she pushed and pushed me to tell her what wrong and i finally said it " i was sexually assualted". she didnt know what to say she just gave me a big hug and said it will be ok. the police were called and so was mam. i gave a wriiten statement but then a few moths later i had to go to the station to give a formal statement.
on february 18th 2018 i was called back down to the police station and i was told because i waited 10 months to come forward the boy would not be prossecuted.
What did i do wrong, why didnt i come forward sooner and why did i let him do that stuff to me
this was traumatic
it would take anyone in your shoes some time to pull themselves together
it is awful that the system is so mucked up
I think you are focusing on the wrong thing " to late for the police to do"
i think you should see the strength that you found within yourself when "I spoke up"
I understand your frustration with the legal system. I waited a year after the last time I was sexually abused to tell a teacher which got reported. Then they told me I needed to go to the station, like you. But I didn’t go to the station until 3 years later. Since then, I’ve been working with detectives for a year and a half, and while they haven’t dropped the case, they haven’t progressed it either despite all of my involvement. I won’t get into it all since my situation is long and complicated, but it just goes to show you how each local police department handles sexual assault cases differently.
