I can certainly understand your frustrations with your dad.
I guess you could handle it a few different ways:
1. make peace with the past and move on
2. give yourself time to heal from your feelings, possibly being less connected to your dad during that time if necessary
3. talk to him about it, and then re-evaluate.
Personally I'm introverted and extremely non-confrontational, so I would opt for choice one or two, but that's just me.
Sometimes as kids we're unable to understand things our parents do until we reach adulthood. It sounds like you had a lot going as a child, compounded by your dads marriage and leaving your mom-so it makes perfect sense that these feelings are just now hitting you. They've probably been in your subconscious alll along, but everything was so shaky that you couldn't deal with it. It sounds like you are stable now, thus suppressed (even if it was unconscious) emotions start coming out.
I really hope everything works out for you, I'm sorry you went through you everything you did.
Hope this helped
love,
rr
I'm sorry for your pain. Betrayal in any form by a parent is deep; you are justified in what you are feeling. I would advise not to add guilt or to try to give yourself a break from at least that.
Abandonment hurts deeply, to everyone. Focus on you understanding you, not your father's understanding or lack of understanding toward you.
Now that you're a parent, I'm sure you would your child's need before your own. Sadly, you didn't receive that and should have.
I'm impressed you have a child (I could never chose this) and that you have a genuine, good relationship. This must be a way of healing, no? Think of all you can give your child and how you can pass on good.
Your father chose how to handle his relationships with his children, as you should.
I'm sorry father's day will be sad for you but glad that you will do something positive despite it. Wishing you peace, Mik
I understand your pain Taz! I can only say Celebrate the man and father you have become inspite of your father!!
With love!!
