I just do my best to honor my own feelings and communicate with my bf about what's going on.
When I was younger, I had a hard time saying no and felt I had to have sex with my boyfriends and husbands because it was expected.
I don't feel that way anymore. When I don't feel like it, I just let him know what's going on with me and that it's not about him. My main concern is my own well being. I've spent too much of my life pleasing others.
I haven't always been this way. I was quite promiscuous in my 20s (I'm 43 now) and enjoyed it, even though it wasn't the healthiest sex a person could have. Even with my husband -- we enjoyed a more "normal" sex life before we were married. Now it is frustrating for both of us. For him, because I don't care if we never have sex again, and for me, because I want to want my husband that way. I want to share that kind of love and intimacy with my husband, but I don't seem able to.
Oddly enough, if I force myself to let things progress, I can get past the fear and anxiety. I find sex with my husband relatively enjoyable. But it's getting beyond that initial panic.
