Whenever I'd say that in therapy my therapist would say, "Start where you are." Back then I didn't realize what sage advise that was but can see it now...just start where you are.
Oh, I'd get annoyed with her when she'd say that and with focused intensity would hiss out between my teeth, "I don't know where I am." And somehow, that would lead to the next sentence, "I am angry." And so one sentence followed another for that session.
Begin where you're at. Sharing your story when you're ready to and respecting the times when you're not quite ready. And/or, as suggested by bluedragon41, start to journal. And not to worry, there is no wrong way to share your story.
It's getting in touch with your own inner wisdom that will guide you. Listen.
