counseling?

ok so i really want a counselor and i've been asking my mom to get me one for almost 2 or 3 years now and she just wont. well i guess she did get me one but it never worked out with our schedules. but i want to know if any of you have advice on how i could get a counselor or get help in the right direction on getting one. im 16 and i belive in iowa you have to be over 18 to get a counselor without a parent's permition. i'm not sure if my school counselor would be much help but i am gonna ask tomorrow and she if she has anything i could do but i just wanted to see if you guy's know anything that i could do.

Can you call your insurance company and see what they have in the area which you could get to by yourself or by pubic T. Then when you get this information bring it to your mother attention and tell her all she needs to do is go to the first meeting to sign papers and you could get there on your own. Good Luck shianne

How did it go at school today? Did you ask your school counselor could help?

Since your mom was willing to get you a counselor at least once, how might you work together to make it work with your schedules this time?

If you let your mom know that you're interested in counseling and are also willing to see what you can do to make the schedule work, maybe it can happen.

I'd love for you to have the support you're looking for. Give you mom another chance and see how you can make it win-win. :-)

Do you have a planned parenthood program in your town. They will have someone there who can help you. Also, if you call a domestic abuse shelter they usually employ conselors. Good luck and good for you, it is not easy to face abuse and you are brave.

Definitely speak to your school counselor--you might be able to get into a program offered to jouveniles through a local rec center. Sorry scheduling seemed to be a problem but if mom was truly with you on your request then compromising would have been an solution--I hope your mom doesn't put her life before yours--if so I am sorry to hear that.

Karyl, this is very important. Does your mother know that you were sexually abused by your brother or does she think you want counseling for some other reason? There should be quite a few resources for someone your age to at least speak to someone over the phone or over the internet about your abuse. If your mother doesn't know about the abuse, you should consider telling her. If she knows about the abuse and won't get you help, that is really serious. Tell her you were sexually abused, that you are depressed and suicidal and need help. If she still won't help you, get help some other way. You aren't going to get through this without someone to help you sort out your hurt, shame, anger, guilt and other feelings. If you can't tell your mother, definitely speak with your school counselor on Monday. They know how to get you connected with someone who can help AND they can be a tremendous resource of support for you right now.
