Getting in touch with our emotions is a process, a marathon, not a sprint but a huge chunk is going to be explosive for a good deal of time because of all that steam had a lid on for so long. The important thing is that we express our anger in a safe healthy way.
tyzz has some great ideas. I have sucessfully used 1 but scribling at times when I was especially mad; 3 but in my place listening to a good rage song; and 7 but used a tennis racket on my couch; all worked great so the anger dissipated.
Here is my favorite rage song:

When my grandson was abused by his mother's boyfriend. (my son and his wife have custody of him now) But I bought him an inflatable punching bag. I knew he had anger he needed to get out of his system. He went through about 5 punching bags. When he would pop one, I'd buy him another one. It helped him a lot.
As far as I am now Im not doing so great. I have DID formerly known as multiple personality disorder. One of the personalities holds a lot of anger and is making my life a living hell. He wants to be a perpetrator and hurt people. However, he wants to express his anger at the wrong people rather than where it belongs. He sees that if he exporesses his anger at vulnerable people well then he will be ok. But if he expresses his anger at the right people even though they went our of our life 20 yrs ago that somehow they will hurt him.
SO yeah imho I think anger is one of the more difficult concepts to deal with after childhood abuse but is somthing that definitely needs to occur,.
