I first heard about this a few weeks ago in Maclean's (a magazine in Canada) and at first I was really excited about it. But then I found your earlier post in the Rape support group and someone posted this article:

I now don't think it's such a good idea. But I will let people make up their own minds. Just wanted to bring this side of the story.

Well if for no other reason - the fact that a man may wonder if a woman has this device inserted and would therefore pause to think when the urge to rape hit him, I think is a good reason for these to be distributed to women.

I can't imagine a better payback than this device......

After reading the article that Kyleb18 posted, I have to say I think the device is a bad idea. The numerous ways that a person can get past it, and the high chance of increased violence, is enough of a reason for me to think this is a bad idea. If a woman wants to wear it, it is her choice, but I personally think it is a recipe for disaster. If men who rape are likely to think women may be wearing them they'll likely "check" every time, and if they find it, or if the don't check and discover the woman wearing one, it is likely to end in violence, possibly to the point of death, for the woman. Rape is about power, and to a rapist this device would seem like an attempt to usurp that power, which is a sure fire way to escalate things. But that's just my opinion.

i think ppl e missing the whole picture here. this device isnt going to prevent rape it just means some very angry man is going to very pissed off.
i think it would put the victim in more dangfer, and the fact that the victim still has go thru the emotional trauma of that situation.

u would have a better chance if u had a spray, or weapen on u. lol.

i just know some vulnerable person is going to buy this device and think there safe, it dnt work like that.

I agree with Newhope, your best bet is to carry something to protect yourself with.

It seems to me the devise doesn't so much protect against rape, it just shortens it. If a man is close enough to get stuck in that devise he has already assaulted his victim, he just can't continue to prolong the experience. Although, I like the idea of some sick bastard getting stuck in that thing, I think those things should be permanently affixed to all the male sex offenders out there, lol!
