How do you best deal with flashbacks? I think I have got better over time at dealing with them but they still leave me shaken up and unsettled for a while afterwards even though I know they are just a memory and im safe now.

One thing that helps most people is to get into mindfulness meditation. It retrains your mind to stay in the present, where you are safe, as much as humanly possible. I've seen it work wonders in a very short time.

I'm glad. There are a lot of good books on the topic, it's a technique the Buddhists use very effectively. Some of their texts describe how to practice it very well. Depending where you live there may be several mindfulness training/support groups you can take advantage of.

THE POWER OF NOW was a best seller several years ago, the author did a very good job of explaining the practice. You can find a used copy very cheaply almost anywhere.

One thing that might also help is learning the skill of lucid dreaming. If you saw INCEPTION you saw a VERY inaccurate description. I learned it originally to cope with recurring nightmares. But it also helps with memories I don't wish to relive when awake. If anyone has a million dollars I'd love to do a study to see how well it works for others.
