Actually the more realistic question ought to be: Given what you know about your addiction and the currently struggles you are admitting to having, why on Earth would you want to ever go back to that nightmare of a life?

No one NEEDS heroin or cocaine. So abstinence makes sense.
People need to eat, so abstinence for compulsive eaters would not make a lick if sense.
People do have sexual urges, and those urges need to come out somehow. IMHO people with the problem (like me) have to learn how to reduce the harm. Otherwise we are trying to stop a biological need. That never lasts, it's doomed to fail eventually.
Just my 2 cents.
yes, the sex drive is basically a good drive, healthy and important for the survival of the species. Pornography only reinforces the endorphin rise and does nothing for the survival of the species, or our need for intimte love relationships. Pornography actually impedes our ability to really make love to someone in the context of a full committed relationship that would benefit the survival of the species.
food is a good comparison.. would you rather look at a picture of pizza and fantasize that you are eating it and then stick your finger down your throat? That would do nothing for your need for good nutrition. For good nutrition you choose good real food, prepare it, and then put some in your mouth, chew it, swallow it, digest it, and don't forget to eliminate the waste matter.
So in sex we choose a mate carefully, prepare the relationship, then we consummate it, live the marriage, care for the family.
If you are talking about that you don't want a good healthy sexual relationship, or that you do but don't presently have one, well, then working towards that goal,, porn is off track. If you are saying you'll go out and rape somebody if you don't do porn,, porn might actually get you closer to going out and raping somebody.
so, sorry Tim, but that excuse doesn't wash. If you need to masturbate to get release, then you can do that without porn too.
