I leave my bedroom door open at night and charge my phone in another room. And leave my laptop in another room. My usage time is after everyone has gone to bed. These little things have helped. Relapse is gonna happen. I try not to beat myself up about it. Anything that can disrupt a routine can help.
When I finally defined myself the way God sees me, I had hope and could lift my head. There is no shame. It’s made a world of difference.
My next goal is to reduce the number of relapses I have. I have weighed the decision to talk to my spouse about my addiction. Has anyone had a experience talking to their spouse about this?
I want to share somethings that have been helpful for me on my road to recovery.
First, I have scheduled an appointment with a therapist. This major step was very important for me. It was fully admitting that I can't do this on my own. I need help. I will let everyone know how the discussion goes in the new year.
Second, when I feel tempted to view porn, I take a moment to sit down and check in with myself. Do I really want to do this? Does this behavior align with the person I am and want to be? How is this going to make me feel afterwards?
Third, this group. It has made a difference. The comments I have received inspire me. There are brave men and women in this group, experiencing the same things as me and have the same goals. I hope to inspire others in the way that I have been. We can beat this. We can get better. We can live our lives with more freedom and control. We can be the people we truly are.
Thank you everyone.
