I've been a member of this group for almost a year now. I've had more downs than ups, but I keep coming back, reading your stories, looking for support. I'm starting to feel so disappointed in myself for not being able to commit to this. I beat smoking, drugs like cocaine, and have been able to overcome most challenges. But this is something else entirely. I know I'm a better man than what I feel like, but this addiction is making me feel worthless. I make small commitments daily, only to see them fall away shortly thereafter. Only thing that keeps me wanting to try is this group. Just typing this out helps... but I want more, I want to beat this.

I know how you feel when it comes to this addiction. I struggle daily to change my thinking so I can get to a better place. This addiction is something that is physically natural to us, but we made a decision along the way to take it to an extreme and then let it control us. It’s not like quitting drinking or taking a drug. Sex is built into us and is part of an atrial healthy life. We crossed a line we need to get back across to the healthy loving side of sex but we need to figure out why we crossed over to the unhealthy side so we can break our addiction. I also find that coming here helps me and is bringing me closer to crossing back to the healthy side of sex where it is real and not a fantasy. When I feel the pull I pray, or take a walk or do some kind of physical activity to change the direction of my thoughts. Keep coming here and being open in what you share and to what others share. By doing that we take steps towards the healthy life we want!

Thank you. I suppose next is really uncovering the root of this. Porn I don’t think is the problem, but the coping mechanism to deal with whatever issues. Have some ideas what they may be, anxiety chief among them, but there are others I think. I just feel so overwhelmed by this, but I can’t give up. This year saw many victories and relapses, it I want to keep trying. One day down.

I think sexual lust will be a life long struggle for me. But I have been doing well in the strength the LORD God has given me in the past few months. Attending addiction recovery classes in the past few months has helped me out a lot as well.

Thank you To-Be-Clean for mentioning SA. I’d never heard of it before. I just looked it up and I think I’m gonna try an online or phone meeting. I live in a small town with no SA meetings.
So I’ve been an addict for years, some better controlled than others...
I feel so ashamed! I see a therapist but can’t even talk to her about it. Sex was a total taboo subject when I was growing up. It’s extremely difficult to talk about sex even with my husband of 30 years!
I don’t see any user names on this thread that suggest any females besides me. Are there other women on here? Just curious.
I don’t remember why I started at 13. Maybe because my parents divorced then. Maybe I was just coming into my sexuality. My self esteem. I started using drugs and drinking then as well. I’m too old for this crap and for such lack of control. I’m sure I sound gross. I hate it. I also would consider a flip phone. That’s a great idea too! Saw it on a different post.
