Get away from your computer. Go to the gym, go do your grocery shopping, go to church or the library, or go do some chore you've been meeting to do but keep putting off. Just turn the dang computer off.

When you try to change something that's difficult, your mind will sometimes try to negotiate with you to get what it wants. Such as: I'll do it just this one time, maybe I'll just start cutting down, or tonight I'll have a break and get back at it tomorrow. That's a serious urge you need to deal with and to get it out of your mind whatever it takes. Be aware and be mindful.
What happened?

I was left alone with no wife & kids for 2 days (and I did make it out sober). But had work related issues come up (stress trigger) and my brain was trying to negotiate with me saying "just one more".

I just left the house and got away from the computer which is hard since 90% of my job in on a computer,

I'm glad you were able to resist the urges. I know how hard it is to not watch videos, read stories, or look at pictures when you are so tempted to. I am very proud of you!

That is great that you were able to resist! I too am alone for 11 days, no wife and no kids here right now. Temptation for me is ever present.

Just remember that "one look will not hurt" is the biggest your addicted mind can tell you. It will hurt and big, it will simply start the clock back and do you really want to literally waste 2 weeks you will never get back?

So think consequences while feeling the urge and just feel it, do nothing, it will eventually go away. And install a darn filter in your computer or else do not use it at all, if you must use one, go to the library or at work.

Wolf, you are so right!! The biggest lie is that one more look won't hurt you. In fact, as I write this, I have an urge to look. However, I am on here venting and taking small swigs of Dos Equis: anything I can do to distract me is what I focus on. I have filters on my computer but I can look elsewhere. I think my problem is: the more I lock away porn the more I want it. That is amazing that you have been 4 years sober.

You said that your problem is that the more you look away, the more you want it. That is what is called a withdrawal symptom.

The way to deal with withdrawals is to addressed them in a life affirming way and sadly alcohol is not one of them, even in small doses because alcohol lowers inhibitions and leaves us more likely to give in.

So what can be done? Do absolutely nothing, sit there with it, feel the feelings, try to figure out what it brings up for you and in time you will become self aware as the urges diminish, you will be able to address them before they can mushroom into unbearable stages.

As for my 4 years of sobriety, thank you. However, it has been accomplished by constant vigilance and a total and radical life change and constant thirst for improvement. It is not easy, the first two years were rough and the next two were spent tweaking tactics here and there.

My best advice is start a life as someone who has never seen porn, why? Because, the more you built your recovery on not watching it, the more difficult it will be because your focus is on the porn not the healthy life.
