I am relatively new to this support group as well. I understand the strain on the relationship you are going through. If you started viewing porn at the age of 7, you must be pretty young as internet porn didn't exist until I was a teen, unless you are talking about mags. I'm only a few days into my recovery but I already feel like I have a clearer head and more time in my day to get things done. How frequent do you view porn? Is masturbation also a major concern in your relationship as well?
There are great people on here all going through the same things and I'm sure we will provide support for you.
Yes I was first introduced to porn via magazines and video cassettes.
It would vary as to how often I'd watch it. As a teenager to my mid 20s it was multiple times a day. Sometimes I'd masturbate as well but they didn't necessarily go hand in hand.
As of the past few years it would start and stop, unfortunately when it would start it would lead to purchasing pornography. The thing also is that I'd do it all behind my wife's back.
1) I joined this group on dailystrength.org to help me gain perspective and support me in my recovery.
2) I threw away all of my "toys" (these would be various pumps and masturbation toys)
3) No social media apps (committed social media suicide by deleting all of my accounts, checking out women on instragram and tumblr are just as bad as porn and even worse for the relationship, so it all had to go)
4) My phone cannot be on my person inside my home, it is to stay on the kitchen counter if I am not talking on it. My phone has GPS tracking so my wife can see where I go at all times with the Life360 app (its free). So like, sitting on the couch or going to the bathroom with my phone are both major no-nos. I cannot use it for recreation at all.
5) My laptop is on my kitchen table at all times, my office is closed and my desktop is unplugged and pretty much dismantled.
6) Masturbation is limited to 1x per day with a goal of 1x every 2 days as my small goal right now.
7) I have no financial independence (I closed my personal accounts and moved my money into the joint account for my wife to monitor my spending)
*8) I just found a blank journal yesterday and have written 1 entry so far.
I really don't know if others tried any of these things, but I'm desperate to beat this addiction, so I'm doing it using ways I can think of.
