Sex / Pornography Addiction Support Group
Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
Hi - I'm 22 years old and I've been watching porn for over 10 years. Over the years I became addicted to porn. I started watching more and more porn and the porn I was watching got more intense. I've tried to quit before in the past but I can never really stop for more than a week at a time. Around 2 years ago, I started dating my current girlfriend. When we started dating I started feeling guilty about watching porn but I never really accepted that I had an addiction. My girlfriend also watches porn so I figured it wasn't a huge deal that I did. She knew I watched porn too and she was cool with it but she didn't know the extent. On average I watch porn at least 2 or 3 times a day. I recently started going to therapy for my anxiety and depression. I find that I ramp up my porn use when I'm feeling stressed or depressed. Porn has always been something comforting for me. I finally opened up to my therapist about my porn addiction and she suggested I seek out a group like this. I told my girlfriend that same day and she was absolutely devastated. I can tell she was shocked but she's been trying to be supportive. She wants me to get better. I know there's a lot riding on me getting clean off porn. I know it's not just affecting me anymore. My girlfriend has felt so insecure since I told her and I don't blame her. I'm so grateful she was as understanding and supportive as she was but I know I really hurt her. I'm scared because despite telling her and talking to my therapist, I still haven't given up porn completely. I'm scared of losing the person I love more than anything. I'm scared because the porn I watch now is so much more intense and extreme than the porn I was watching five years ago. I'm scared because I'm only 22 and the porn I watch now is so extreme it makes me wonder what kind of porn I'm going to be watching in 10 years if I don't stop. I'm scared because I never would have thought I could get addicted to porn. I want to change. I want to stop watching porn for good. I want to stop in a sustainable way. I know there's a lot of underlying trauma and insecurities I need to work through. But I was just wondering if there's any resources someone could recommend to help me at least break the habbit. Is there anyone that would be willing to help hold me accountable? I know I can't fo this on my own.
