I did it! I deleted ALL my porn. Cloud storage that I had been saving for YEARS. Closed all accounts at my usual sites and even closed that email address that would still give me the option to reactivate...

I always left a small door open with my cloud storage .This was a BIG step for me....I feel good...GREAT about it now...but I am scared for the withdrawals later.

I still can't believe I deleted my cloud storage :)

Awesome ...purging is the first step to recovery. What safe guards have you put in place so you can no longer access?

That is a great step. Have you been free of using porn for a while, or are you breaking free of it now? Especially in the latter case, you may need to put something in place to prevent yourself from going to these sites, starting new accounts and such. At the very least, have a plan for what you will do when withdrawals come. Will you call a friend? Leave the house? Go pray somewhere? Journal about your feelings? Shoot baskets outside for 15 minutes or so until the urge passes?

If you've been porn-free for a while and these stashes were there "just in case" - the way some smokers will carry a pack of cigarettes around even while on the patch even though they aren't smoking, until they get comfortable with letting go - it will probably be easier, but you may still have feelings of loss.

In either case, letting go of porn is in some ways like leaving a bad relationship. We know we need to let go, but we worry because we are accustomed to turning to that relationship in certain times, to address certain needs, even though the relationship was unhealthy and never gave us quite what we needed. It is therefore important that we understood what we went to pornography for, and to have some idea where we will turn instead.

Dlansky...thank you for your comment...in the early stages of my husbands recovery he tried to explain the porn use then the withdrawal when he stopped. ..he told me that he missed it for months...even used the word grieve...i didn't understand that until I just read your post ...makes sense to me now....so thank you ...

Hello Pobevin...that's great....it took me awhile to delete 'favorites' on my PC as well as private videos I had of a past partner so I know how hard it was to release them...I felt it was a milestone for me to be able to do that so I know how you feel...have a great day.

Good first step! Now you must have strong self discipline, NEVER look at porn again! Your mind is going to try to convince you that lesser erotic material is ok because it's not porn, then slowly you are going to be back looking at porn again in force. That's what happens to me anyway, so don't allow any room for failure. Don't think sexual thoughts. Read books, occupy yourself with non sexual things.
