Rather than try to remove the lustful thoughts they need to be replaced. Likely you have too much idle time on your hands. I have began to play Disk Golf to get involved in other wholesome activities.
Presently I am still in recovery. I believe I am up to 90 days of being clean from sexual indulgence. I am also attending an addiction recovery group.
Pray and spend time with god, I would recommend John Bevere's porn-free course, it's really helped me get a handle on it. The images are still there but I can power through them by reading my bible or working out. It is difficult and I've dealt with it for years but the lord can help you. Nothing worth doing is ever easy and this world will do everything it can to tear us from God our father but we can try, we can do our best to fight the good fight, Our holy father will help us.
We're in a war for our attention, so put as much attention on god as you can, read your bible, pray for deliverance, and more. It's simple advice and I've been doing it for years but it does help, just keep going back to the lord laying your sins bear and praying for help and he will provide refuge and help for you.

Either way, if you want to stop, then look into stopping. If you're trying to figure out whether you should, well then go back to the beginning of what I wrote.
One thing is for sure, pushing the thoughts away won't help, you need a replacement. And they'll never go away completely, but it will get easier to handle.
Figure out what your goal is and why and you'll have a better time making the decision and following through with it
