Hitting a Wall

I've been trying to to stop using porn for the last few months after my wife caught me with it. I used to view it every day but have been able to reduce to once or twice a week. 


I feel awful every time I get the urge and when I slip up I feel even worse. It's always nagging right at the back of my mind. My wife has been supportive, but I don't like telling  herwhen I've slipped because I don't want to disappoint her.


I know should look at the progress I've made, but I just feel like I'm not making any more. I feel like I've hit a wall and I want to get over it do I can continue to improve.

It is good that she supports you. You need help from others and that is one already on your side. Other women just leave. Again , you need a lot of help. You can start by getting this book which I have recommended here so many times. It is called “Every Man’s Battle” by Stephen Arterburn. It will open your eyes about sexual temptation and what is going in you when you are trapped by porn. When you have done that, check their website called New Life Live. They have a radio program where they answer a lot of questions from callers and the website has a lot of helpful articles. You need to educate yourself to have a better grip on this problem.

Support is always a big help in this endeavor. Along with this forum, I've searched for an addicts group and just recently joined a conference call with a group.

It's not going to be easy, we're going to have our good days and bad days. I try to concentrate on the good things I have going for me. Yes my wife is hurt, angry, and doesn't trust me, but she's still here and we're still married. It will probably hurt her if you tell her that you slipped, but keeping it from her will only make it easier to lie again. Find some exercises to understand why you slipped. What were you doing? Beforehand? How were you feeling at the time? What were you thinking? The sooner we can spot our triggers to going back to porn the better chance we have to find a healthier outlet.
