Once you are an addict you are always an addict, if you are an alcoholic you can never drink again, to do so would destroy you. So the only thing we can do is become progressively victorious over it every day. If your friend was a recovering alcoholic would you encourage them to drink with you just this one time to make you feel better? The outcome could lead to their death. loss of family, loss of friends and loss of everything.
Alcoholics suffer just as we do, and they have been stopping over and over all by themselves everyday, only to start again when they try to control it by themselves.
When we take control of the uncontrollable we always lose, when we numb our pain we fail, when we run form our hurt we fail. when we do not acknowledge that this power lust/addiction has over us we fail.
In order to become victorious over the addict is to acknowledge it, to ourselves, to others, and to a power greater than ourselves.
You say you do not believe in a higher power, but yet you allow the power of porn/lust and addiction to control you to run your life, is that not a form of a higher power than yourself? You let the need, desire, that feeling of fantasy take over your life to control you.
If you were in charge you would have never looked at porn, you would have been able to defend yourself. face your fears, face your pain.
No we are not in control because if we were we would never wish this pain on ourselves.
It does not matter if we were rapped, abused, abandoned, neglected, or forgotten, we all turned to an addiction for that acceptance, for that love, for that feeling of self worth.
Did we find any that, those things we needed - looked for, cried for, yearned for, no so we kept hurting ourselves and our soul turning to the things that made it worse every time, allowing ourselves to go lower and lower into self hate, hurt, pain and neglect.
We failed to love ourselves, because someone told us we were not worthy, we turned away from a belief in a higher power because we were abandoned, we were hurting, we were neglected by those that were suppose to love us. how can we believe in a higher power when we dont love ourselves.
To stop feeding the hurt we have to start loving ourselves, we have to stop hurting our soul, we have to care for ourselves as we were designed.
I know you are angry, hurt and lost, the pain you run from runs deep in you.
You are a gift from God, you have a purpose, you have a destiny, what was done to you was not your fault. God did not turn his back on you, man lied to you "that God did" to further their own gain over you. how could they want you to believe in something more powerful than you than them? They would lose control over you, you would see through the hurt and pain.
You want to heal? Grow from your pain and hurt? Be the best person you are meant to be? Live out your purpose your destiny to be great and a leader for others to follow?
Then join a local SA group, get a sponsor, read all the SA books you can, challenge yourself to think different, to want real change in your life.
Take real action of love for yourself that you have inside of you and care for your soul and spirit and life and be a beacon for others suffering as you suffer.
I pray you are safe and healthy.
why you need to act out.
what you did good today,
what you did wrong today.
write about your first times, if its triggering then stop. and wait a while and start again.
I would get the AA big book, either in pdf or hard cover which ever way you prefer to read and start reading it, it has a chapter in the book just for you.
I suggest you seek out professional help as well, everyone's situation is unique and needs to have someone guide them too.
You need to find someone you can trust to tell your whole story to. Someone who will not judge you but will listen to your pain and hurt as it all comes to light.
You were not born this way, things happened, and surely they hurt.
I only have 9 months of sobriety, and each of my sponsees has a different story but we can relate.
I was very much like you. You can also just listen in on some ZOOM SA meetings as well.
Same here, I’ve gone to agnostic and atheist meetings in the city. I also attended normal SAA and SLAA meetings, going to start zoom meetings Friday... I also have zero interest in religion/God, so I have found connecting with others and CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy), most helpful. Modern approaches that don’t rely on magical thinking or pretending to believe in something you never will... wish you the BEST, challenging journey!!
