May be it's hard to digest, but although most addicts can be reasonable in other areas in life, they have no mental defences against engaging in their addictive behavior despite the conseuences. it's plain insanity. The worst part is that we can't stop even if we want to on the basis of our will power or resolutions. We have to get outside help.
Sex addiction is a spiritual disease. Although medical treatment can help a little bit, physician cannot do much in cases like mine or yours.
I strongly recommend getting help by working a 12 step program. If you need some suggestions, let me know.
Take care!
It sounds to me like the problem you're facing is that you're getting something you need out of this, even if it's an unhealthy way to get it. I won't pretend to know what that is, but going to a good therapist or psychiatrist might help address the underlying issues. That's a way you can get help without directly facing this particular demon.
For some people it's purely a sex addiction, but for others it's like drug addicts who're using it to self-medicate when they should be on more effective prescription medicine for physical or psychological problems.
I am still trying to sort all this out in my head. I know a married person should not have lovers, but does that mean addiction? Going to a stranger's house was admittedly stupid and dangerous. I did text him the morning of to tell him I was sick and would need a rain check and he texted back and convinced me to go after all. It worked out well this time, but I will never do that again...
For your own sake as well as that of your husband, PLEASE get help. And the previous poster is right you owe it to your husband to let him know what's been going on, as you may have already endangered his life.
By 4/27/13, just four days later, you wrote "I also went to the home of a strange man who could have been dangerous for all I knew. The sex was unprotected. He told me he has had a vasectomy and that he is clean. I took his word for it."
This is the progression of the disease. In just a matter of days your boundary shifted to allow increasingly dangerous behavior, even while you saw it to be dangerous.
