Sexual addiction, also sometimes called sexual compulsion, is a form of psychological addiction to sexual intercourse and other sexual behavior.
So, Im have a sexual addition which came to its peak last summer. By the grace of God, I had an experience which restored my sanity and inspired me to withdraw. It was very difficult, but not quite as difficult as it had been about two years prior when I also went through a withdraw period. I was involved in a Dom/sub relationship which cultivated this addiction; my partner knew exactly what he was doing, and I allowed it to progress. Its been quite an experience as I didnt believe I could actually become a sex addict, laughed it up and was proven wrong. He used my addiction to control me, which was hot and perpetuated the whole thing; it was wickedly clever.
Anyway, this time around the withdraw was easier, I think in part because I came to terms with childhood sexual abuse and that sort of overshadowed everything else and gave me a lot of understanding. Im not about to say Ive beat this addiction, but its getting easier and Ive been making improvements over several months.

I have been conscious of the fact that I crave endorphin and that my partner played with this quite a bit, always triggering endorphin release some way. So, Ive been trying to come up with new ways to get the endorphin I seek. Obviously exercise is a big one and its helped me a lot. Another I have considered is transcendental meditation, but its quite expensive to learn. Im releasing a lot of the emotions related to the abuse and that seems to help me. Yoga is helping.
Recently I started learning about amino acids and I am curious about the use of dL-phenylaline to supplement the endorphin deficiency that we experience during withdraw. Im a little past the worst stage of withdraw, but the craving still hits me from time to time and Im thinking about taking this as needed as a natural supplement. What so you all think about this? Has anyone else tried it? Any success?

Before I retired several years ago, I worked on the behavioral health units of a HUGE university medical center. They were always doing different experiments for the pharmaceutical companies, and one they were doing involved giving massive doses of essential amino acids to people with schizophrenia and clinical depression since both of these conditions are caused by deficits of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. It is this lack of neurotransmitters that causes the symptoms, and to some extent, the diseases. What you are talking about is basically the exact same idea.
Now since I was not a physician but rather a psychologist, I wasn't kept up to date on all of the latest research findings. But by simply observing the patients, it was very obvious that the amino acid therapy was working since their conditions improved steadily. I don't know that this would necessarily apply to what you're talking about, but I don't see how amino acid therapy could hurt. But again, don't take my word for it. Wait and see if someone with more training in this area offers an opinion. Interesting idea, however.
