Hello I’m new to this group my husband is a registered sex offender he was in prison for 10 years before I met him, he’s no longer on probation he has no other offenses. I’m struggling because although we make enough money, and pay our bills on time, no one wants to give us the chance to secure decent housing, I live in a basement with no real windows, no heat, no tub and it’s so cramped can hardly move around. It’s depressing to the point of I don’t know if it’s worth it to stay with him, I’m feeling punished for what he did any suggestions?
Right now I'm facing a similar situation. We're in a small bedroom. I'm grateful we have a bathroom. But the walls are so thin, I feel like I have absolutely no privacy (I'm a person who needs a LOT of peaceful solitary quiet time). We don't have a kitchen, we don't have a living room, and we have no space. We're sharing a double bed (I think that's smaller than full size). Everywhere here is too expensive, and the places we can afford won't give us a chance.
I still choose to stay with my husband because, I did vow to stay for better or worse. And even though we're facing this awful time, filled with discrimination and pain and helplessness, he himself as a person is still an extraordinary partner to me. He's so loving and considerate and patient and adoring, and I know he hates himself for what we have to go through as a team now. If you love him, for who he is as a human, and he is a good partner/teammate to you, I urge you to focus on that. As depressing and horrible as the situation you are in right now is-and it is a PAINFUL one, that is impossible to deny-there will be better days ahead with him.
That said, if you're suffering and he's not trying to make the situation easy on you or doesn't treat you well and shows no love or compassion, or you feel uneasy in your partnership with him, it may be best for you if you walk separate paths.
We were facing some of the same problems as you.
It was a little easier in the fact that my husband hasn't been convicted yet, but we know he will be on the SO list.
this is what I finally did.
We were looking for a house, but everyplace we liked we call the police to make sure it was an approved residence.
If is was then we looked at it.
I did not say anything about his status until we had been approved. Upon hearing what happened only one place then changed their mind.
I don't know where ;you live but I found living slightly outside of town helped also. Not country but just out side city limits.
The best thing if you are in the situation to do it is to buy. Then as long as you follow the residence restrictions no one has a say.
Hello. I am in the same position as you. The difference is that he was a sex offender when we were married and he moved in with me. However, the apartment is small and old with problems. While the apartments is ours, there is definitely the fear that one day my management office will find it he has been living here since we were married 5 years ago (thank goodness they are off-site) because I know that if I add him to the lease they will probably tell us to move. While we want to move it will have to be the fans situation until 4 years when we can petition the the court to have him removed from the registry. We may just have to wait it out, but have you received any helpful information since you posted your entry earlier this year?
We found a much nicer place to live, the landlady knows and understands, although it's a much farther drive to work, I wish he would make the call to petition the court to get off the registry. If you look enough you'll find a nice home
