Engaged to a RSO

So, if you would have asked me my opinion on the registry a year ago, I would have said, its great and we all need to make ourselves aware of all the red dots on the block. 


Now, I am engaged to one. He served 10 years for the sexual assault of his daughter who was between the ages of 6 and eleven during the abuse. Prision saved this man's life and with the help and healing that only a supernatural God can provide, he has an amazing restored relationship with his now 24 year old daughter.


God is good. But people don't want to hear that a man can overcome this most disturbing urge. They want to contunue to vilanize him and make life so difficult that at times he has contemplated taking his own life. Where is the help? Support and body of Christ for the "lepers of our day?"

Gemmertz, my husband is starting his 10yrs for a very similar situation. We have been overall very blessed by our church and support circle as we move into this time. But I understand... it's extremely hard to find people that will engage with the label to learn more.

Our church has a "recovery" group that my fiance attends every Saturday. It is a group for men only that have served time or suffer from sexual addiction. It is very important for him (and for me) that he attends weekly. It helps hold him accountable and gives him an outlet, and people to talk to that have gone through the same thing. He also suffers from PTSD due to trauma he experienced while in prison. Of course sex offenders are the lowest of the lowest and are often the target of other inmates. He fought a lot and spent an incredible amount of time "in the whole". We talk about it often and I just listen to his memories. It helps him to talk about it and to have someone to pray for him afterwards. Proud1314, I will be praying for your husband and you as well.

It's "funny" how easily it is to make judgements when we don't really have all of the information. A few months ago I could never have imagined being with an RSO and strongly believed that the register was a good thing.
