Sensory Integration Disorder Support Group
Sensory Integration Disorder is a neurological disorder causing difficulties with processing information from the five classic senses, the sense of movement, and/or the positional sense. Sensory integration disorders vary between individuals in their characteristics and intensity.
I have two wonderfull childern, and healthy. As Grade 1 approached for my daughter many red flags came up. So the teacher suggested to take her to a Occupational Therapist. Long story short , she was diagnosed with SPD.
And so my little world came crashing down, MY KIDS are very healthy and stunning, never in the hospital (exept for birth.) and once a year at the docter. To See my daughter struggle with easy tasks, for example: spelling , reading , writing and putting on a jacket. It broke my heart. Naturally me as a mother blamed myself, and why could I not make this go away?
I turned for advice in tears with friends, with a response of " she will grow out of it" , "she is just smarter", "the teacher does not know what she is doing". In my mind these words made me feel :" this is not a problem and that she will out grow it". Well/... that feeling went away after the homework session. Getting her to sit still is a mission.
After a month of rushing too therapy sessions, speech therapists, ect. I feel drained, and tired. I am busy reading a book : The out of sync child ... this has given me a massive perspective. Me as a parent: in the baby stages of understanding this.
Feels like a mountain ahead.
