Any help or ideas are welcome. My daughter is 6 years old and in Kindergarten. Her IEP for OT is 15 minutes consult once a month (pretty pathetic,I know). I thought we'd do things the school's way for a semester to see the progress. There's been very little even though she works with a para almost everyday (that's the extent of the OT services). We called an IEP meeting and had our private OT on the phone. The school knew this ahead of time and this is not the first time we've had the OT on the phone telling the school what to do. It costs me $160 per hour to do this; I'm really sick of paying an OT to tell the teachers what to do when the school should have to provide an OT or pay the private OT themselves. So, the most recent fine motor assessment was a year ago. It was done by another school district (we were trying to move specifically for better OT services, but were unable to sell our house). It was a standardized test that showed a score of 73 and 77 (or higher) was needed to pass. She was given OT twice a week for 20 minutes with an OT or an OT assistant. I'm trying to get that for her once again because it's clearly needed. The school is hiding behind the fact that it's a small rural community that can't afford to hire or even find an OT. I know this is NOT my problem and that it's not an excuse under the IDEA laws. However, we live in a small community and my husband runs a family business in the town 23 miles away. Is there anything that I can do to get the OT my daughter is entitled to by law without getting the Kansas Dept. of Education involved? The school also screwed up and didn't do a 3 year re-eval (due December 2011) which is a major violation. I've already put in writing my request from the IEP meeting for OT 2X per week for 20 minutes with an OT to the administrators of the dictrict. I have requested an acceptance or denial letter along with the reason. However, I expect them to ignore it. I am also on a waiting list to get into an OT in a big city in Eastern KS for a complete evaluation (mainly to prove to the school that my daughter needs OT and under IDEA they are required to provide it; I have even offered to drive at my expense to a larger town 30 minutes away for OT if the school will pay for it since they are "unable" to get an OT in the school).
