Sensory Integration Disorder Support Group
Sensory Integration Disorder is a neurological disorder causing difficulties with processing information from the five classic senses, the sense of movement, and/or the positional sense. Sensory integration disorders vary between individuals in their characteristics and intensity.
My little man turned 2 in October and we thought he was doing ok after putting him in DCI school [a branch of EI] 2 1/2 hours a day 3 times a week.His vocabulary had jumped from 4 or 5 words to about 75 and his social skils had jumped conciderably.he was no longer staying in his room for days and not hiding when other people even children came around.He was also potty trained,had not had an accident in weeks.He still had alot of sleep problems but we were dealing with them slowly.
Now he babbles alot and has to be reminded to use his words.I think he acually thinks he is using words when he does this because he tries to carry on a coversation with me.He fights with his 15 month old brother [who I have to say holds his own very well with him]constantly.He has violent tantrums where he hits,kicks,beats his head on the walls and even bites.He will be sitting next to someone and just haul off and slap them through the face for no reason.The first time he did this to me,he slapped me pretty hard for a 2 year old and before I knew what I was doing I had slapped him back.Afterwards I felt like the world's worst mother.I have never hit a child in the face in my life even when his bio mother was at her worst!I actually sit and cried with him and begged him to forgive me.
Now potty training has begun again because he tells me after the fact when he hs to go.He can't handle wet or dirty pants so he ends up having a melt down over it.SLEEP?What is that?I don't think I remenmber it's been so long since he has slept all night.When he does go to sleep he's up all through the night screaming,not awake but screaming.It takes forevr to calm him and get him to rest again.I have to lay on him or wrap him real tightly in my arms.As sure as I relax into sleep myself he's back to screaming again.And of course as both babies sleep in our room [my hubby is afraid to put them in their own,afraid we won't here them if they need us]the little one wakes and starts crying.While I try to calm this one he's trying to get that one back to sleep.So no,I don't remember sleep!
I have talked about it to his EI ladies and now we have an appointment with the pedatrian and I am going to tell him all this to see if he has any ideas and get some referrals for OT and specialist.
I am going to post this in both SID and autism because I need as many ideas on all this as I can get.

Sometimes our kids do regress, and its hard to watch, I havent had to see this first hand but have heard from alot of mothers of thier children regressing, I know its like 2 steps forward 1 step back, but in your case he want completley the other way,
Has thier been a change in his surroundings, or any changes in his life that you think could have triggered it, Im glad you have a apt with the ped, make sure to get refferals, sounds like you are doing the right thing,, big hugs hun
