yep sure do .. All I have here is my hubby ... all people my age work ... my kids one girl in arizona , boy in arkansas and I am in Iowa .. I am really lonely . tried going to the senior center but that gets borin gafter a while ...I wake in the morning and say here we are again sigh

but I am not depressed ...

Thanks for your reply. My depression only set it after the sudden loss of my son five days before Christmas in '08. I've dealt with it as best I can, but now my own health problems are getting me down. I have a bad back, which makes it hard to do anything. An for the last three months I've been dealing with severe stomach problems. It just seems I'm covered with so many problems that no light can get in to me.

Try getting involved with the senior citizen center, they have alot of great get togethers. Some even offer a free bus ride to pick you up and take you home.

It gets depressing staying home all the time and you deserve to get out also.

I am sure your husbands healthcare will pay for a careworker to come in and giveyou break. I know the have several around where one worker will come to your house daily for a couple hrs and do things for the ill.

Also sign up for Hospice since he is terminally ill We signed my mom up and it was great, a person would come to the house, give my mom a bath, feed her, give her meds and my dad could get out of the house. Its a great program and I think its time you take advantage of it.

Thanx, for that info. I do have a friend/neighbor who I go out with once or twice a month. We do the Red Hat thing and the ladies group from our park. After my son's death I volunteered at a local botanical garden weekly and it helped. I now just tend the gardens around my home. With my husband's health problems I don't want to leave him alone much. And, believe me, I do get out a lot with all the trips that I drive for him. There isn't much time to do anything else. I just keep on keeping on.

Have you looked into VA Aid and Attendance - you could at least get some financial help. Also check into your local senior center for information on low income assistance. The VA should be able to help. There are may be volunteers in your area that would be willing to come help you with light housework or just plain companionship. I am a VNA Hospice volunteer in California and my job is to relieve the spouse and/or family members. Are there any social groups in your park you could join? You have a very difficult job being sole caregiver. Try to find time to do something for yourself that makes you happy. I am an "ear" if you need one.

It sounds like you have a full plate which may leave you without any energy to regroup. It is very difficult to be a caregiver especially as we get older and have less energy, And I understand about housework. How many years have we cooked and cleaned and now it becomes like such a chore.

It sounds like you need a little fun just for you. I do believe that doing something fun that forces you to move around and be outside is very healthy for our emotional outlook and our physical health. Is there a senior center nearby where you can take a exercise class and meet other folks.

Also, do you belong to a religious organization -- perhaps get involved with it more. I am sorry about your son. That must be tough to have to detach from your own son.

I do understand what you are going through and I hope that you will find a way to take back some enjoyment in your life. Good luck to you.

Thanx for all the good wishes and ideas. I've now had a bit of a setback - messed up my foot. One broken bone, two bruised ones. Had been seeing the foot doc for a swollen bursa on the bottom of the heel on the same foot. Luckily I already have a cane, due to my bad back. Now I am propping up my food, icing the heel and icing the toes and hobbling around to get stuff done! I suppose this is what I get for complaining!

Sometimes Complaining is just Necessary, for me it sets me clear...getting it out of my mind. I am really sorry for your foot malady!!! I too have back pain, that is bad enough, but add the foot, OMG...Bless you, I hope you Heal well and soon!!!!

Do tidy your little home, it will make you feel so much better and there is so much you can do quietly or get hubby to wear ear muffs or ear plugs while he sleeps. Play some nice soft background music to cover any noise you might make. FB is oodles of fun. I used to play a little farm game FarmTown when i was house bound, i met some wonderful ladies and still keep in touch with them even though i dont play anymore. Your estranged offspring, dont fret, they eventually get back intouch and if they dont then it is their loss, sadly. And do check out if the library has a book club or even a childrens reading program, both can be a great source of fun and socialising.

so sorry janni,for your problems . i was caregiver to my husband who passed away from lung cancer. my heart goes out to you. i would be so tierd and many times just wanted to be alone. now i would give anything to have him back. try to cherish the time you have together. i know things seem sohard , but everything will be alright. rita

Janni, you are lucky to have these wonderful folks on DS reply with all that helpful advice. Should I say, we are lucky!! Now, all you have to do is decide that you deserve a break and that you can and should accept some help in getting things in line at home. And as for self-relaxation, they nailed it--FB games, pogo, gamesville..I am hooked...and I unwind daily at one of those sites. Again, use some of those resources they named. You'll get the relief you need and deserve while still getting things done! Keep us posted!
