I've just been thinking lately... I was raised catholic, went to catholic school, was taught the values and beliefs of christianity. I experiences more judgmental and cruelty and importance of materialism and money and status in the church than we did outside of it. As I got older, I tried going back to church in order to understand why so many people found strength in the Lord. I never felt anything. This then made me feel more isolated, and in a way still does. I want to have this magic source of unconditional love and strength... Why can't I receive it. I feel like I've always lived my life trying to be a good person, forgiving those who didn't really deserve to be forgiven, overcoming obstacles I didn't cause at a young age experiencing hardship and PTSD amongst addiction issues... I'm just wondering, why do some people find their answer strength hope and faith in God, but even though i've been open, I just don't feel that. Have I not hit my ultimate low yet, I mean I've been suicidal at times and no one was there. The only thing that got me through was myself. I believe in science but I believe that has to be some higher power, whatever it may be. Am I hopeless or just confused...

I did not find faith in a church or in a certain group of religious individuals. If you are honestly open to accepting a higher power and seeking strength my best advice would be to research. There are many religious organizations that serve higher powers, but there is more to it than organization. Faith to me is a feeling. Finding strength at times when in all reality i should have died is one of the times I know i'm saved. I don't want to offend people, but to me faith is about believing and having hope. God, allah, YaHWeH, etc etc... they are all powers that are with us. When we cry, god cries with us. It is not something that will come in an instant or just because. feel free to pm me, i might make more sense if questioned haha (excuse my rambles!) Faith doesn't save me like i wish it could, but it gives me hope when i'm really at the end.

I just have never felt this comforting feeling from praying or in a church or when i'm crying out with everything I have. I always have to just pull myself up and out of it... I don't want to offend anyone either but a part of me wants to believe its almost a made up coping mechanism... Idealist. I choose realism, however i'm still depressed, so maybe they are right and i'm wrong. I know thisis a deep topic I just feel like those around me who have been "saved" tell me I need Jesus and I don't see why, considering he hasn't been there all along

I've had the Lord in my heart for a long time and He has given me some peace and strength. But when I was down and out and on the verge of death (literally) i survived, i believe, because he gave me the strength to. I find concepts of religion to be comforting. Words, passages, from all religions. That is what sustains me. God doesn't speak to me, he doesn't keep me out of harms way, but when I am in harms way or i'm at the verge well... i'm still here. The most comforting story for me (well, at this moment not always) is the foot prints story) look it up. I can't say for sure if religion is made up or real, all i can do is look inside myself, research for myself and do what i feel is true and honorable. For me, that is believing in God and goodness, even when i'm at the bottom of a bottle and bleeding.

i do not believe in religion as such, i believe there is a god like power that we can never grasp or understand, but not a person figure that created everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th. i used to have hope in society before i woke up and saw what a bunch of heartless bastards people can be. i believe everyone creates there own path, do not have a set path, and people should just enjoy life not talk everything serious and just have fun now and then. :)
