Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
When that wore off, and I was in hospital, I started colouring. I find it destracting, and sometimes relaxing. Sounds stupid for an adult to be colouring, but it's much better for me then cutting.
Last night I did a half a cut then breathed deeply, and looked at the distractions you guys gave me because I copied them down. I took out a rubber band, turned on the t.v, closed my eyes, andthought of you guys. And I stopped cutting. That has NEVER happened before. I just wanted to thank all of you. :)
Something that may sound odd that really tends to help me - -
I watch movies like 'Hero' and 'House of flying Daggers'
they are foreign movies - but really awesome quality and story lines.
...so much more original and thought provoking than our American movies...
the thing is - you NEED to pay attention to follow along and read the sub titles.. and for us add kiddos - that is a HUGE help as our attention can be all over the place.
Anyway - it really is worth a try. rent one of them at blockbuster or something and see if it helps.
I also like writing on my skin, particularly using the Irish script called Ogham. Ogham uses horizontal likes that cross a single vertical line, so writing, for me, uses a motion similar to cutting. I have a photograph of the script on my photos page, if you're curious.
