Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
I have two other accomplishments I'd like to share though. They both happened this week. Nice change of pace after the last couple of months. 1-I won first place in my Photoshop class' Halloween photo contest. This came as a total surprise to me. 2-I did a programming assignment all by myself. I think I'm finally getting computer logic. Up until this point I had been getting help online or copying examples, but not this one. I started from scratch and got it to work. I was super stoked.
I have low self-esteem, as I'm sure others here do since we're not cutting because we're happy with ourselves, so it was a good change of pace that these things happened.
I hope others will jump in on this topic. It's a good exercise. And some days doing a household chore enough to be proud of since some days they seem so hard.
Livingkitty! Those are wonderful distractions and coping mechanisms, picking up journaling was one of the most helpfull things I have ever found in self growth, self understanding, and avoiding self injury! The rewards every three days and social support with family sound like solid plans as well! I am sorry to hear you are still struggaling but it sounds like you are developing some usefull tools in helping you to quit!
Good job everyone! Thank you for the possitive posts!!
My proud moment thingy is that I haven't cut in... 99 days!! It started out as a necessity to keep myself alive, but now I don't want to give in to it. I've been talking, asking for help and advice. I've never felt this happy/proud of myself ever in my life. I never thought I'd make it here. And I'm so happy to be able to say that I'm here. And whatever the future holds, I'll always know that I've been here before and I can always make my way back. It's kind of cool. :)
And seriously, major kudos to everyone. Not only for what you've posted as your positive accomplishment, but for the supportive positiveness you are giving to others. :)
Valgal18, congratulations to you as well. I've been in that place. And what you've done is a huge achievement-HUGE. Those type of steps for me personally were the most terrifying and hardest.
All of you ROCK!!
Finger painting is a very positive distraction for your mind and fingers! I think that is great you shared the idea!
99 days cut free is GREAT! Good job! Amazing! That helps give us all hope!
Staying safe even in an inpatient prgram is wonderful, the fact is we can find ways to hurt ourselves no matter what or where and you chose not to when the time was right!
You all inspire me and I love to hear all of these accomplishments no matter the size!
