Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
1. Snap a band on your wrist
2. Write on your arm or anywhere else you cut in WASHABLE red marker, or red nail polish.
3. Squeeze ice or rub it on your skin
4. Run your nails LIGHTLY on the part of the skin you want to cut
5. Sit with a strong smell around you and just focus on that smell (candle or perfume)
6. Put your hair into a TIGHT pony tail, just make sure not to pull any hair out
7. Rub something rough on your skin... NOT something sharp
8. Stay away from everything you may injure yourself with if at all possible
9. Call a friend or talk to someone on here
10. Scribble on paper
11. Do some serious excercise
12. Focus on something you really enjoy
13. Write about how you are feeling
14. Paint your nails
15. Remind yourself how you do not want scars
16. Eat something with a VERY strong flavor
17. Put band-aids over where you want to cut
18. Mix warm water and red food coloring and put it on your skin where you want to cut (it looks a lot like blood)
19. Take a hot shower (no razors in the shower)
20. Go to a public place
21. Bake something
22. Scream into a pillow
23. Play with play-dough
24. Go for a drive
25. Throw socks against a wall
26. Cook a meal
27. Call a help line
28. Hit the bed
29. Color
30. Buy a cheap stuffed animal and take it out on that instead of yourself
31. Try to make words out of your full name, then friends names
32. Play a sport
33. Clean
