Everyone thinks that I have to have a reason, or I have to be upset to cut...but its just not true. Even if I'm not upset, the longer I go without cutting, the more the urge builds up...I feel like I'm drowning, my skin is itching for it, I'm suffocating, and I can only go so long before the urge is too unbearable and the want is too strong...can anybody else relate??

i can relate to you....i haven't cut in over two years, but sometimes i still get the urge.....they're not as strong anymore, but i've had them....it was like an addiction.....before i stopped and i had those really strong urges my skin would actually hurt and i felt like i needed to cut to make the pain go away-weird i know.....i can relate...you're not alone

I can relate, like you said the urge builds up and up leaving me feeling even more tense.

I can totally relate to this. A lot of the time I cut I have no reason other than the urge is so strong that I can't stand it. It makes sense if you think about it in terms of it being an addiction, just like to drugs or alcohol. When I started using drugs it was to cope with my out of control emotions (my counselor is now thinking it may be bipolar) but over time it got to the point where I was just using because I had to use, and its the same with cutting. I mean sometimes I still cut because my anxiety is out of control, or i'm really dissociated, but a lot of the time its just cause i've gone too long without it

I can definitely relate to that. Reading that just now...it almost felt like I wrote it. I hate when people say that there has to be a reason to self harm or a reason to be depressed. Sometimes, there's just not and they don't understand. I hope the urges subside a little bit. My urges are still there but theyre not as strong as they used to be. Just keep pushing for it. Remind yourself of all the reasons that you don't want to do it and stay strong!

I can relate to this. For a long time I felt this tension in the back of my throat or itches to the surface of my skin thinking about cutting. I haven't cut in 3 years now, but I still feel them now. It really does feel like an addiction.

I get like that sometimes. Like, sometimes I will just feel like I need to cut for no reason. When I have a reason the feelings are worse. But even when I'm calm, sometimes I still just want to do it just to do it.

I can relate. When I need to cut, I'll start shaking, my skin will itch for it, sometimes I'll cry because I feel like I NEED to cut in order for the pain to go away. So yeah, I know exactly how you feel.

yes, this happens when addiction sets in. Your addicted to cutting, and its far harder to stop the addiction then if you just started and cut only because of a feeling. Now its up to you to either keep going with your addiction or to get help for it and beat it. Its possible to stop many of us have its still s struggle but once you know you dont have to fall into the thoughts and the need to harm then its easier to beat. But you still need support, you cant do it alone.
