Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
I am sorry to hear about the unfortunate family drama you mentioned. Punishing yourself for the actions of others- which are NOT under YOUR control..is NOT the way to solve any problems ( which I am sure being as intelligent as I can see you are from your post, you know this) . It would only serve to cause more 'drama' in your life and lead to that downward cycle we both know too well , right?
Some say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing -repeatedly- expecting different results. By being here, talking about how you feel, and reaching out for support..You are expecting different results by stepping onto a new path which is the absolute right thing to do. So please- take a deep breath..remember This too shall pass. And that YOU are not responsible for your Family- Their Actions are not YOUR fault..and above all Your life is YOUR precious creation. So take care of the canvas you are given. :)
You can do it!!
I really empathize where you are coming from. I have had a similar heartache when I was younger- my brother and his wife ( both of whom I was extremely close to, I have always looked up to my brother and we have been like twins. His wife was one of the few females I allowed into my life at the time) went through a sudden divorce , throwing the family and their 2 children into emotional turmoil. I internalized alot of the situation , especially being a primary care giver at a young age of both my niece and nephew - and my family misdirected alot of their frustrations/stress upon me during the transition. What we learn and take away from these situations is what we create our futures from. Life is about creating ourselves- we do have control over our actions which in turn can sooth situations, and make these rough seas smoother for those going through turmoil :)
Which I am sure you will do SWIMMINGLY!! You have an excellent head on your shoulders and all you need to do is not allow the panic to cloud your judgement (easyer said then done I realize). But remember this, people like us thrive and survive in situations that would cause some to break. We hold it together in some intense situations. Let's not fall prey to our own inner doubts when we are on the sidelines taking a breath gearing up for the next round .
You can do this !!
