Self-Injury Support Group
Whether you or someone you know or love struggles with self-injury, this is the community to discuss your experience, find support, meet others going through the same, and get advice on how to stop. Working together, we can help find alternative coping skills to reduce the urge to self-harm.
It wasn't wrong to ask for help, it was RIGHT. The unfortunate bit is that they probably have no idea how to help... their feeling of inadequacy is distancing them from you. I really encourage you to tell someone other than your friends. That's the biggest thing I've learned thus far in terms of friendship: Your friends are desperate to help you, and they're the people you trust... but as much as you both want it to work, it often isn't enough. The fact is that they just aren't trained, and as much as they want to help, they can't; that makes everyone uncomfortable.
My best advice would be to tell a counselor, parent, therapist, etc. After you've begun to get help, tell your friends. Thank them for trying to be there for you, assure them that you're getting the help you need, and things should go back to normal (or closer to it).
Best of luck - it's so brave to tell anyone, I'm really glad you have. If you ever want to talk to someone who gets it, I'm here and I'd love to help in any way I can. Good luck!
When your cutting increases it does isolate you, it made me unable to do some things with my family. I couldn't go to the beach for 9 summers in a row because otherwise people would see my cuts.
CBT/DBT therapy is what works to treat SI. Both therapys focus on changing your reactions to situations and changing your behaviour.
You're friends can support you, maybe you could tell them that you know you need help and are going to seek it.
