so i wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but i thikn this is my best bet....soooo i went to the doctor last thursday.....i've only see nthis doctor MAYBE 4 times.....i was there for an annual check up and i brought up bloodwork and said that i was recently in the hospital in january and he asked why and i said suicidal ideation and he said something about my meds. and then he said,"but it's just deporession and anxiety right??" i replied,"well that and borderline personality disorder, and OCD and PTSD and self injury and chronic suicidal ideation.." and he said,"wow!! lemme write this donw!!" and as he was writing all this down he said,"i would hav never expected that....you're such a sweetheart...not that people who have mental illnesses can't be sweethearts, but wow!! looking at you you're such a sweetheart!! youl ook so nomral!!! i mean i look at you adn i see this normla person and knowing this just..wow!! you're just such a sweetheart and you look like a nomrla person!!!" hearing this i got pretty stunned and just kinda sat there listening to this....i barely KNOW this doctor....he was very nice adn everything and i felt like he kind of was hitting on me.....does that sound right??? am i just being paranoid???? he just kept on calling me a "sweetheart"....in MY mind i don't say that to just anyone....i say it to people i love and care about....i felt really awkward leaving there...am i being paranoid or was he possible flirting with me??? sorry, if this gets off track, but i'm kind of at a loss here....i can't distinguish paranoia from reality....

girl i would get a new doc cuz if hes calling you sweetheart and shit theirs a problam there that just me though

Yeah.. It may not be that he's flirting but its unprofessional to do that. I dont know i've ever called anyone I dont know sweetheart. If he makes you uncomfortable hes not helping you.

Yeah time for a new doctor, Im studying nursing and one thing they hammer into you is that its very unprofessional and almost illegal to call people by "pet names." So something isn't right there, move on there will be better doctors and theres no need to have the added stress of that.

he could be flirting or just trying to be nice but hes gone over the top if you get me.
i wouldnt say sweetheart was a flirting word as i know loads of people who say it, i think if he said 'gorgeous or babe' he would definately be flirting. but it isnt really professional :/
BUT if you dont feel comfortable with the doctor then change!!

He could just be trying to make u feel better if he said something that made you feel or he may have felt made you feel bad. He may have felt that what he was saying could have been triggering and kind of tied himself up so to speak.

I prefer professionals to speak to me as a person and not their title - but Calling you sweetheart is in my opinion crossing a line, Although I had a support worker who ALWAYS referred to me as love, but also referred to others in the same manner - if he is a good doctor I would take someone with you to you next appointment like you mum or sister - see if they think he is being out of order.

But ultimatly if he is making you uncomfortable you should change doctors, (just ask to see a female if you are worried about making him feel bad, being female you entitled to this without question).
