Is it normal to become addicted to the pain that i feel when cutting because that is happening. its kind of like a high. i dont want it to occur but after so long its an addiction. Am i the only one feeling this way?

I'm not addicted to the pain, b/c I don't even feel it which is scary. I'm addicted to the being able to feel afterward. I'm totally numb a lot before I do it, then afterward, I can feel again. Or sometimes it's the exact opposite. I'm in so much pain that I know cutting will take it away, so I cut then I feel numb. I'm kinda addicted to that too. Don't know if this helps or not, but hugs anyway :)

i know that it seems like a strange thing to be addicted to this sort of thing, but you really aren't alone. when cutting was just an escape for me, it's become like a daily necessity... i understand how you could be addicted to it, but you're not alone.

I like the pain when I can feel it, which is rare. I'm more like iluvsterlingroses as I do it for the numbness. But when I first started cutting about eight years ago, I absolutely did it for the pain. But after a while, I guess, you become used to it and don't feel it anymore.

Scientific side, so maybe you can understand why (i work better with facts). Pain releases endorphins in the brain which are the little buggers that cause people to feel "happy" or "good". They are also released by drugs such as (but by no means limited to) marajuana. That, i think, is what you describe as the "high". It is definitely possible to become addicted to the feeling. The cut is my drug.

I've had problems with cutting for over 3 years, I still do it.. It's really hard to stop, usually seeing a doctor is hard because all they recommend is counseling or even medicine which doesn't work either, I'm addicted to it too but I guess you just get use to the pain after a while.

It is normal for someone to be addicted to the pain. I though, am not addicted to the pain it causes, but it seemed a while ago, I was addicted to cutting itself. I hated the pain it cause, but it help let out the stress I have been dealing with in my life. I still have thoughts of cutting and it is hard to hold back but I try my hardest no too and have succeeded so far.

No I promise you aren't the only person who feels like this. I felt like this for 3 years. You can get through this. I swear. Addiction to pain is not something to be ashamed of but also not something to be proud of. You can stop. You can get help. It takes more for some than others. Be strong.
