Scoliosis affects all ages. Unlike the naturally occurring curves in the spine, scoliosis causes the spine to curve abnormally to the left or right.
I'm 12 years old and was diagnosed with a double curve of 30 on top and 18 on bottom. I'm currently wearing a boston brace. I really hate the brace and I'm wondering if I should just ask to get the surgery. Can anybody who has had the surgery tell me how long it takes to recover, and just the recovery process? Thanks!
Hi! I'm 13 years old and I have a 43 degree C curve, and I've been wearing the Minnesota brace for about 6 months now. How long have you had the brace? The brace might be really annoying and uncomfortable at the beginning, but don't worry! As you wear it more, you get used to it, and find ways around small issues. Wait for sometime before getting surgery, because it is a really big deal and surgery always has risks. From what I heard, surgery should only be used if absolutely necessary. I'm trying to avoid surgery as much as possible, so I tried Schroth therapy. It really helped me understand the whole situation and learn what I could do to help improve my scoliosis. I learned various exercises to help de-rotate the spine. I'm sorry I'm unable to directly answer your question. Wish you the best!
