The spinecor helped me in supporting my back. I have a severe degenerative scoliosis that was only addressed by exercise while I was a kid. My mother didn't want me to wear a brace, nor did she want me do do surgery. My curve started progressing when I had kids and now even more that I am in menopause. As I said, the spinecor gave me some relief. However, it is expensive and does no more than a regular corset. I got the spinecore from a Chiropractor in Chicago named Dr. Pappas. Ultimately, it's difficult to put together and difficult to go to the bathroom once it's on. I know you don't want your child to go through unnecessary surgery but if it comes down to it, there are 2 very fine doctors in Chicago. One is Dr. Tyler Koski, a neurosurgeon through Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The other is Steven Marjetko through Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. Dr. Koski is not the type to recommend surgery. He suggests surgery as a last resort. He might follow your child's progress using alternative methods. He also has support groups through his practice. Good luck!

I can see why SpineCor helped support your back. It has made a difference in her posture right off. The part you mentioned was difficult to put on and go to the bathroom must be better now. Instead of snaps Hope wears what looks like biker shorts and it is all velcro. We left the office after her first fitting and stopped for lunch and she used the bathroom and said that it was great, no problems. We are seeing Dr. Pappas too.

It's been two days since Hope has been fitted with her new SpineCor brace. Some of her comments on the brace fitting day. "This is easy" "it's comfortable" "I like it much much better than the awful rigid brace" "I can move!" (smiles). Our trip was a long one and our appointment took about 3.5 hours because we were far away and more needed to be addressed. Dr. Pappas was wonderful. On our trip home, 5.5 hours long, Hope wore her brace comfortably. Not once was there a complaint. We stopped on the way to see my brother and his family. She showed off the new "straps" (she calls it-not brace) no problem. She was very hesistant with the Boston brace. They all commented on how her posture looked right off the bat. We got back in the car and headed home. She slept all night and got up for school the next day and wore it all day until she got home from school where she got a four hour break from it. There was no coaxing to get it back on. In fact, i was heading in to her room while she got ready for bed to remind her to get it back on and she was already finishing up putting it on! She feels great in it. Hope is a very "old soul" and takes things very well but I never would have thought how depressing the Boston was for her compared to how SpineCor has been. Freedom of movement, better visible posture, and not being able to tell under any clothes you have it on has definitely made a difference in her psyche.

Clinically....Hope was in a Boston brace since end of September 2010. I don't have my notes with me right now so if the number are different I will post again but she had a 34/38 degree curve before Boston bracing. Bracing showed a 10% improvement. Xrays taken Jan. 2011 without Boston brace on was 40/34.
She has had a growth spurt since Sept. growing 1.25 inches.

She is diagnosed with a Right Thoracic T3 curve. Xrays after having the SpineCor brace on for about 15 minutes showed 10% improvement. We will go back in 5 weeks for a follow up and see where we are. It is going to take time to see where this will go for Hope. She is a Riser 0 which means she has a lot of growing to do which is an advantage and disadvantage. Advantage = can help train the neuromuscular and spine to compensate on their own early on. Disadvantage = rapid growth spurts where we have to be diligent in adjustments to compensate for growth, etc.

I am very very happy that we have been able to take advantage of this type of treatment for Hope. She is happy and feels so good about herself. Over half the battle is won right there. Our wishes are that Hope's scoliosis does not progress too much. We want SpineCor to be able to give her freedom of movement and comfort and slow the progression of the scoliosis that she can live comfortably in her life without worries and complications of surgery. So far we have two down for sure. The rest time will tell until she is fully grown.

I am so happy for you and Hope! At this point we are going to be perisistent with the Boston brace for 4 months then go from there.

Please let know about the curve changes I have been saving for that brace for tree yeas, I hope that by June, I complete the money. However, I want to make sure it will be worth it.

I am so happy you found this brace for your daughter! I just came across your post and was wondering how the bracce is working out for you. My 5 yr old recent was fitted with a Boston Brace and she HATES it. It is a daily battle to get it on her. I was looking into the Spine Cor and would love to hear your thoughts on how it has worked.

I would suggest finding a SpineCor provide that is near (or somewhat near as in our case) and they should speak with you to see if your daughter is a candidate. It is worth a call to see. My daughter has ideopathic scoliosis. Let me know. Good luck.

I purchase the spincore brace. I am from Canada and had to go to Buffalo to get it, the only other place was in Montreal and Buffalo was closer to me. My insurance covered the cost of the brace but the refitting the chiropractor (who represented himself as a doctor over the phone) is $1500 a pop and not covered. At first the brace gave me some pain releif and allowed me to move. After awhile though it started to cause me pain. I think it depends on the person. It was originally designed for kids not for adults. However, my sciolosis worsened after a car accident 8 years ago, hence the attempt to undo the progression. I spoke with the orthotics specialist at Sick kids here in Toronto about the brace while my daughter was being fitted for a foot brace for her club foot. He informed me that they stopped using them becuase they did not see enough of a result from them. I would chart the results and request copies of reports of improvement. To ensure that it is doing what the proport it to do.
I hope to works for her and she does not have to go through the surgery. i know my neurologist has adviced me agaisnt the surgery until it endangers my heart or lungs as it can cause more pain. I have complications that cause me to go into seizures when the pain is severe, so I too am avoiding surgery until I have no choice.

I am 19 now and I wore a SpineCor brace from age 13 to about 15. It, along with chiropractic visits, corrected my curve by a few degrees and then held it until I finished growing, which was the critical period.

The brace did start hurting after a while (particularly right under my butt and on my hip), especially at night. I found that putting a fluffy sock under any painful straps helped a lot! I also had problems with the straps coming unsnapped during the day, but it sounds like they fixed that problem!
